Delphinium elatum Delphinium, or Larkspur, are tall beauties of the cottage or cutting garden that produce strong, showy stems loaded with flowers in summer. They prefer cool, mild summers and slightly alkaline soil. Staking is often recommended to keep the large, brilliant flower spikes from toppling or breaking in seasonal wind and rain. They do best in a sunny garden at the back of a border. Great companion plants include Baby's Breath, Peonies, and Coneflowers.
